Reality Check took place this morning for the Elkton and Sioux Valley seniors! Students had a great opportunity to gain information from local organizations about their services and the actual costs associated with "adulting" and budgeting. Special thanks goes out to Katherine Bogue with SD Dept of Labor who helped me get things organized and to the individuals who came and gave their time!

How far will your salary stretch to cover your cost of living?
Elkton Schools and the SD Department of Labor are hosting a “Reality Check” for Elkton and Sioux Valley seniors on October 6th from 9:15-11:30 am. Students will get information about average monthly salary for selected careers and will then visit a variety of stations to learn more about the costs of living (such as taxes, housing, vehicle payments, insurance, utilities, food, post-secondary loans, and savings. At each booth, students will make decisions about how to spend their money and deduct the costs from their check register. At the end, students will examine their choices and if they were able to make their paycheck cover the costs associated with their wants and needs and ways to make better informed decisions about their expenses. Thanks to the area businesses helping out to make this event possible!

Remember that school will dismiss at 2:15pm on Monday for conferences. Please be sure you have signed up for a time to visit with elementary teachers:
